I almost don’t want to write this review to keep it a secret so it doesn’t get too busy and I won’t be able to get a table so quickly. I ordered the American breakfast with extra crispy bacon, English muffin, home fries with onions and peppers, scrambled eggs and washed it down with a mimosa flight. The moment I walked in the atmosphere was inviting and the hostess was generous and quick. She was able to check people out and seat everyone when a table was ready. She is a great multitasker and quick. The waitress and staff all looked very happy and excited to work there. The tables were quickly cleaned and my water arrived soon after I sat down. The food was absolutely delicious and filling that I could not eat it all. I will frequently this place for breakfast because the best part is they made my bacon 🥓 extra EXTRA crispy the way I like it. High five to the management and staff for the outstanding customer service. This is the standard!! Must visit and leave a generous tip.
Definitely the best breakfast restaurant in town - it’ll make every breakfast you make at home just a little less special. This is the third time I’ve been, and I have found that the shrimp and grits are mind blowing and without a doubt the best thing on the menu by far. Pancakes are also absolutely incredible. The staff is very kind and friendly, although service overall takes a little while, but it’s totally worth it. Environment is pleasant and they have great music too. Everything is priced pretty well, and I can’t come up with any complaints other than they are a bit short on staff (it’s okay though). Very highly recommend.
A surprisingly delightful restaurant tucked in a shopping center near Christopher Newport University. They serve everything from their menu all day and offer a variety of coffee and adult beverages. I had the eggs Benedict, my son had the day's special cookies and cream pancakes, and my husband had the create your own omelet. All were great. My favorite part was my side, white cheddar grits, which were creamy and absolutely perfectly seasoned. I would return for these alone. Their servers were amazing. I think every one of them checked on us at some point in our meal, without us feeling it was too much. My husband’s coffee cup never ran dry.
While passing through Newport News I stopped in Byrds with my family. We had a little bit of a wait but it was definitely worth it. Everything from the fluffy scrambled eggs to the perfectly cooked bacon was delicious. My daughter enjoyed their pancakes and their French toast was amazing. I loved their cheddar grits. If I'm ever back in the area I would definitely stop in here again.
5 Stars – A Hidden Gem Worth Every Bite! Byrd's Restaurant is the kind of place that makes you want to come back before you’ve even left. I ordered the Byrd’s Hash with deli corned beef (and yes—real corned beef, not the canned stuff!). The home fries, onions, and bell peppers were perfectly grilled together, topped with two eggs just the way I like them, and served with my choice of bread. You could taste the freshness in every bite—absolutely amazing. My husband got the shrimp and grits, and let me tell you… I almost ditched my own plate to steal his. As someone who’s never had shrimp and grits before, Byrd’s set the bar way high. Creamy, flavorful, and cooked to perfection—they nailed it. The restaurant doesn’t take reservations, just walk-ins, but the wait is 100% worth it. The staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming, which just adds to the cozy, down-to-earth vibe. Byrd’s is a must-visit—whether you’re a local or just passing through, this spot is a winner.
Party of 2 on a rainy Thursday. This place was nice inside very clean. Touchless hand sanitizer on the wall. Bathrooms super clean. Excellent swift service. But I know why you are here. The food I ordered chicken and waffles. Wow..I think they have set a new standard second place being metro diner. The lil syrup cup is real cute (deep voice). My lady really enjoyed her meal as well.. absolutely nothing bad to say. Will be back for sure
Food and atmosphere was amazing!! I highly recommend this shrimp and grits and mimosas flight!!! The service was impeccable!!
New to the area & heard amazing things about their brunch. They are unfortunately in the transition of closing their current location, but their social media says to keep an eye on what's next to come for their brand. The dining room was closed due to their impending closure, but I happily ordered take-away. The cook/owner kindly took my order over the phone & it was ready in just 15 minutes. I inhaled my food too quickly to take pictures, but the Oscar's Benedict was AMAZING. Home fries were perfect. My husband loved his biscuits & gravy (he said it was the fluffiest angel biscuit he's had in VA, yet). The counterstaff made me a fantastic spicy bloody mary & I enjoyed her banter during check-out. Really disappointed, not in Byrd's, but that we moved here so recently that this was probably the first & last we will get to enjoy their delicious food for a while. We will definitely keep tabs on what their culinary plans are for the future & visit them wherever they end up next!
Food was excellent. From freshly made coffee to the of hot beverages that was served it was awesome. Food made fresh like the pork sausage and everything. I was satisfied.
There was a long wait to be seated on a Saturday morning. The food and drinks were delicious. Unfortunately they will be closing this location at the end of the month. I will definitely keep an eye out for their new location and try them again.
